[PIO] Participation of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works at the EU Transport Council in Luxembourg

Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Alexis Vafeadis is travelling to Luxembourg today to attend the European Union (EU) Transport Council on Tuesday, 18 June 2024.

During the Council, the need to increase the availability of rail infrastructure and better cross-border coordination will be discussed, among other issues. In the field of road safety, the Council will be briefed on the proposal for a Directive on the prevention of impunity for serious road traffic offenders who are not resident in a Member State and on the cross-border exchange of information on road traffic offences. The proposal for a Directive on intermodal freight transport will also be discussed.

In preparation for the upcoming Cyprus Presidency of the EU Council in January 2026, Mr. Vafeades will meet with his counterparts the Ministers of Poland and Denmark to discuss and coordinate the upcoming EU Council Presidency Trio (January 2025-June 2026).
