The Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Mr.Yannis Panagiotou, participated on Thursday 27 February 2024 together with officials of the Ministry of Labour, members of the Aliens and Immigration Service and members of the Police in a coordinated operation to tackle undeclared and illegal work.
In the operation, which took place in Nicosia, two construction sites, 29 employers and 193 employees were inspected. During the inspection, seven undeclared persons and 12 cases of persons working illegally were identified. For these cases, the Inspection Service of the Ministry of Labour applied the procedures for issuing administrative fines, and the Aliens and Immigration Service made arrests.
As the Minister said, the Ministry's goal is to continue and strengthen targeted inspections to combat undeclared and illegal work, to protect workers and employers who respect their rights and honour their obligations. The Minister also underlined his satisfaction with the professionalism of the staff of the Ministry of Labour's Inspection Service, and stressed his optimism about the results that the Ministry will be able to achieve.
