The Minister of Justice and Public Order Mrs Anna Koukkidi Prokopiou participates in the International Conference on: "On a Global Alliance to counter migrant smuggling", which will take place on 28 November in Brussels under the Presidency of the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ms Ylva Johansson.
This is the first time that the Conference is taking place. It aims to create a new global alliance to combat migrant smuggling, urging enhanced cooperation between key partners, as well as to establish a regular process of exchange of views on this internationally evolving crime.
It is conducted at ministerial level, with the participation of European Union (EU) Member States, the European Parliament, EU Justice and Home Affairs Agencies, partner countries of origin and transit and international organisations.
The Minister of Justice and Public Order participates as a speaker in the panel discussion on the prevention of migrant smuggling. In addition, issues related to countering migrant smuggling and alternatives to irregular migration as a key deterrent to smuggling will be discussed.
The Minister will return to Cyprus on Wednesday 29 November.
