The work of the Informal Council of Ministers of Culture in Spain, in which the Deputy Minister of Culture Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou participated, was successfully concluded. The Ministers of Culture adopted the Declaration of Cáceres, which promotes, among other things, the alignment of the EU with the objectives set by the Mondiacult World Summit of Ministers of Culture in 2022, with a time horizon of 2030. In this perspective, the Cáceres Declaration promotes the role of culture as a public good that should be included as a distinct objective in the new United Nations development agenda.

The Deputy Minister of State for Culture, Dr. Kassianidou, in her intervention during the Council's proceedings, stressed the importance of recognizing the horizontal dimension of culture and the need to strengthen the sustainable management of cultural heritage. In particular, the Deputy Minister referred to the urgent need to take measures to address the climate crisis and climate change, which have an impact on the values and cohesion of modern societies. To address these challenges, the Deputy Minister referred to the need to exploit the valuable historically accumulated know-how of our traditional culture, in areas such as architecture, which is adapted to the local environment, agriculture, animal husbandry, water management and, in general, the sustainable management of natural resources and cultural capital for a sustainable and resilient future. She also stressed the importance of cultural heritage for upholding European values and for preserving our identity and social cohesion.

With particular reference to the forthcoming Cyprus Presidency of the EU, as well as the new Strategic Plan for Culture in Cyprus, Dr. Kassianidou highlighted the importance of policies that promote sustainability, participation, social inclusion and economic empowerment of cultural professionals.

In the margins of the Council, Dr. Casssianidou held a series of meetings with her counterparts, with whom she discussed issues of cooperation and European and international networking.
