The Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Ms Irini Charalambidou, participated today in a meeting of the Subcommittee on the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly, which discussed an amendment tabled by her which provides for an extension of the term of office of the President of the Assembly from one to two years, while abolishing the possibility of re-election.
Ms Charalambidou argued that this amendment gives the President of the Assembly the opportunity to put into practice his/her vision and programmatic positions within a reasonable time frame.
All members of the Subcommittee expressed their support for the amendment and as a result, the amendment will be put to a vote in the Standing Committee of the Assembly.
