Mr.Kyriakos Hatzigiannis, MP, Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). OSCE) and Vice-Chairman of the Convention's Ad Hoc Committee on Migration, is travelling to Italy tomorrow to participate in a field visit of the Committee to Rome and Lampedusa to be held between 5 and 8 March 2024.
As part of the mission, the members of the delegation will meet with the Parliamentary Committee on Migration of the Italian Chamber of Deputies.
As part of the mission, the members of the delegation will meet with the Parliamentary Committee on Migration of the Italian Chamber of Deputies. They will also visit the Ministry of Interior where they will have separate meetings with the Director of the Department of Immigration and Border Guard, the Director of the Department of Civil Protection, responsible for migration and asylum and the Head of the First Reception, Temporary Stay and Identification Centres. The members of the delegation will also visit one of the migrant reception centres in Lampedusa where they will have meetings with representatives of relevant international organisations (Frontex, Europol) as well as with the Port Police.
In Lampedusa, the members of the delegation will also visit the Porta d'Europa ("Gateway to Europe") monument where they will lay a wreath in honour of those who lost their lives while attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea.
