Armand Tziozefen - Short biography
Armand Tziozefen was born in Nicosia on 17 December 1931.
He came from a musical family with a long tradition. He attended the Pancyprian Gymnasium (1945-1951). Although his love for music manifested itself from the early years of his life, his father did not encourage him to pursue it professionally. He studied engineering by correspondence at the University of Beirut.
In 1952 he was appointed an engineer at the Water Development Department. For the first few years he worked for the Famagusta and Ayia Napa water system and then travelled all over Cyprus for his work needs. This obligation brought him closer to the Cypriot countryside, which he depicts in a large series of watercolours.
His systematic involvement with painting, as he stated, began in 1958. From this period until his death, he would paint, play music and engage in aeromodelling.
His love of painting and printmaking led him to Pietro Vanucci's Perugino Academy of Fine Arts (a school of art since the 16th century) in Italy, where for two consecutive summers (1988 and 1989) he attended nude and etching classes. On completion of his studies, he was awarded first prize in woodcutting (medal and diploma).
His musical talent emerged early. As he states, "I am a performer and a composer. I have been involved in New Cypriot singing, have four awards to my credit and a discography with Columbia." His musical compositions have been released on vinyl all over Cyprus and abroad.
He has also been involved in aeromodelling, an activity very distinct and completely different from music and art.
He died in Nicosia in 2011.
