[PIO] Opening of the Cyprus Film Week in Berlin, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Culture

As part of the "Cyprus Week", hosted by the Neues Museum in Berlin, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Berlin, the screening of a series of Cypriot films began today, with the premiere of the short film "Operation Museum/Operation Museum", in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Culture Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou and with the participation of the film's director Mr. The "Cyprus Week", co-organized with the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Germany, falls within the framework of the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of Cyprus' accession to the European Union, as well as the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the tragic events of the Turkish invasion of 1974.

In the following days the films "Senior Citizen" directed by Marinos Kartikki, "Pause" directed by Tonia Misialis, "Sharing an Island" directed by Danae Stylianou and "Smuggling Hendrix" directed by Marios Piperidis will be screened, with free admission for the public.

The film "Operation Museum", produced by the Press and Information Office in collaboration with the Department of Antiquities of the State Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus, is the first of five Cypriot productions to be screened this week at the James Simon Gallery amphitheatre. 'Operation Museum' is an account of the gigantic effort by then Director of the Department of Antiquities Vassos Karagiorgis and the staff of the Cyprus Museum to save the Museum's exhibits during the 1974 Turkish invasion.

The screening was followed by a discussion between the Deputy Minister of Culture and director Petros Charalambous with the audience, during which, among other things, reference was made to the interest in the prospect of cooperation between Cypriot and German film productions, strengthening the already strong cultural ties in the field of arts and culture in general between Cyprus and Germany.
