The Department of Contemporary Culture of the Ministry of Culture and Theatre Ena remind the public of the start of the 2024 Summer Screenings Marathon, which takes place, as every summer, at the Constantia Summer Cinema in Nicosia.
The opening will take place on July 10 with the film "The Last Pub / The Old Oak", directed by Ken Loach and written by Paul Laverty. The second screening of "The Last Pub / The Old Oak" will take place on 9 August. The screening is held with the support and cooperation of the UNHCR in Cyprus.
The viewer will have the opportunity to watch films from all over the world that have won awards at major international festivals, covering a wide range of cinematic genres. Dramatic films such as: "Mother, Motherland / Matria" (12/7 and 11/8), "Fremont" (2/8 and 1/9), "3000 Nights / 3000 Nights" (7/21 and 8/22), "Autumn / Sonbahar[/B][/B]Autumn" (8/8 and 7/9),comedies such as: "7 Reasons to Run Away (from Society)" (11/7 and 10/8), "And in the Best of Families" (7/25 and 8/24), "Mother-in-Law Knocks on the Door" (8/1 and 8/31), fantasy films such as: "The Chimera (7/13 and 8/14), "The Five Devils" (7/18) in collaboration with the QueerWaveFilmFestival, "No Family" (7/31 and 8/30) and many others.
As every year, films by Cypriot directors could not be absent. In view of the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion, the following films were selected to commemorate the black anniversaries of 1974: "The Last Turn" (20/7 and 21/8) written and directed by Corinna Avraamidou and the documentary "The Island We Share" (14/7 and 15/8) directed by Danae Stylianou.
This year's programme also features Greek productions such as Eva Nathena's award-winning film "Fonnissa" (19/7 and 18/8), based on the novel by Alexandros Papadiamantis, and the film "BlackStone" (17/8 and 8/9) directed by Spyros Iakovidis.
For young cinephiles, the film "Mystery at Animal Farm" (26/7 and 25/8) will be shown.
