A new smuggling case was successfully dealt with by the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research (DFA) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. Specifically, in a coordinated operation of the TATHE in the marine area of the Governor's Coast, four persons were identified and denounced, who were fishing with the use of nets and snorkels.

The offences that were denounced concerned:

[*]Fishing with a net without a vessel without the relevant fishing permit.
[*]Fishing with a snorkel without the necessary buoy. [*]Fishing in excess of five (5) kilograms of catch in total in a 24-hour period.
[*]Retention/landing of recreational fish from which the upper lobe of the caudal fin has not been severed.

All fishing gear and catches weighing a total of 94 kg were seized as evidence.

The CFCA has made it a priority to combat illegal fishing and will apply the relevant law with due rigour.
