[PIO] Mr George Loukaides will participate in sessions of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Paris.

Mr. George Loucaides, member of the Cypriot delegation to the CSTO, will travel to Paris on Monday to participate in meetings of the CSTO's Political Affairs and Democracy Committee and the Committee for Monitoring the Observance of Obligations and Commitments of the Member States of the Council of Europe (CoE), which will take place on 4 and 5 March 2024. Mr Loucaides will be accompanied by Senior International Relations Officer Ms Gabriella Maragou.

During the meeting of the Political Affairs and Democracy Committee, the Rapporteur on the Famagusta issue, Mr Piero Fassino, will brief the Committee on his recent working visit to Ankara. Also to be discussed will be Kosovo's application for membership of the Council of Europe, the protection of human rights defenders in Iran, relations between the opposition and the opposition in democratic regimes and the death of Alexei Navalny in Russia.

In the context of the session of the Committee for Monitoring the Observance of Obligations and Commitments of the CoE member states, the progress of compliance by a number of Council of Europe member states with their treaty obligations towards the Organisation will be discussed.
