MP Kostis Efstathiou, member of the Cypriot delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), leaves on Sunday, 26 May for Copenhagen to participate in a meeting of the Assembly's Committee on Culture, Science, Education and Media, which will take place on 27 and 28 May 2024.
The session will discuss, among other things, the role of historical memory sites and their usefulness in strengthening democratic education, dealing with the erasure of cultural identity in times of war and peace, propaganda and freedom of information in Europe, the regulation of freedom of expression on digital platforms and the risks and opportunities of the 3D virtual environment Metaverse. Moreover, following an earlier report by Mr Efstathiou as Rapporteur of the Assembly on the consequences of the pandemic in the fields of education and culture, the promotion of cooperation between cultural institutions, artists and schools to disseminate the values of democratic culture will be discussed. In this context, the work of the Copenhagen Workers' Museum, which was awarded last year's Council of Europe Museum Prize by Mr Efstathiou, will be presented. Jakob Engel-Schmidt.
