The Statistical Office announces the release of the report "Motor Vehicle Registrations", covering the period January-July 2024.
In July 2024, total motor vehicle registrations reached 4,614, an increase of 3.9% compared to 4,441 in July 2023. Passenger car saloon registrations decreased by 2.1% to 3,503 from 3,578 in July 2023.
The main developments in vehicle registrations in the period January-July 2024, compared to the same period in 2023, can be summarized as follows.
(a) The total number of registered vehicles increased by 16.6% in the period January-July 2024 to 30.864, compared to 26,462 in the same period of 2023.
(b) Passenger car saloon registrations increased by 13.9% to 24,126 compared to 21,178 in the same period of 2023. Of the total passenger car saloon registrations, 10,151 or 42.1% were new and 13,975 or 57.9% were used cars. Rental cars in particular decreased 32.0% to 2,694.
(c) The share of gasoline-powered saloon cars in this category of vehicles decreased in the January-July 2024 period to 50.0% (from 59.5% in the same period in 2023), as did the share of diesel-powered cars (from 10.2% in 2023 to 10.0% in 2024). In contrast, the share of electric vehicles (from 2.5% in 2023 to 3.2% in 2024) and hybrids (from 27.8% to 36.8%) increased.
(d) Bus registrations decreased to 99 in January-July 2024, from 211 in the same period in 2023.
(e) Freight vehicle registrations increased to 3,523 in the January-July 2024 period, up 40.2% from 2,512 in the same period in 2023. Specifically, light trucks increased 43.5% to 2,805, heavy trucks increased 34.2% to 412, road tractors (trailers) increased 89.2% to 140, and rental vehicles decreased 5.7% to 166.
(f) Moped registrations <50k increased to 480 in the January-July 2024 period, compared to 162 in the same period in 2023.
(g) Motorcycle registrations > 50ke increased 6.1% to 2,218 in the January-July 2024 period, compared to 2,090 in the same period in 2023.

Methodological Information
Purpose and Coverage
Data on Motor Vehicle Registrations are collected on a monthly basis. They relate to new motor vehicle registrations as recorded by the Department of Road Transport.
Registrations are presented by category, make, type of power, new or used, engine capacity, country of manufacture and origin, and other vehicle characteristics, based on information maintained by the Motor Vehicle Registration Service in the Department of Road Transport.
Data collection
Data collection is carried out by the Statistical Service, which receives the necessary data from the Road Transport Department.
Definitions
"Motor vehicle" means any vehicle with an engine, which is its sole means of propulsion, intended for road use and used primarily for the transport of persons or goods, i.e:
- Saloon-type passenger cars, which include private cars, taxis, rental cars, educational vehicles and vehicles for the handicapped
- Buses, private and public
- Cargo vehicles, which include heavy and light cargo vehicles, rented vehicles and road tractors (trailers)
- Mopeds or motorcycles, which include mopeds, tricycles, motorcycles and rental motorcycles
- Tractors, agricultural and non-agricultural
- Other vehicles, which include road rollers, motor cranes, heavy vehicles and other vehicles of a special type and use.
Monthly Publication
The Motor Vehicle Registrations report has been published monthly since 1982 and is available free of charge in electronic format on the Statistics Office's web portal.
