The Statistical Office announces the release of the report "Motor Vehicle Registrations" covering the period January - February 2024.
In February 2024, total motor vehicle registrations reached 4,346, an increase of 55.5% compared to 2,795 in February 2023. Passenger car saloon registrations increased by 50.5% to 3,443 from 2,287 in February 2023.
The main developments in vehicle registrations in the period January-February 2024, compared to the same period in 2023, are summarized as follows.
(a) The total number of registered vehicles increased by 45.0% in the period January-February 2024 to 8.589, compared to 5,923 in the same period of 2023.
(b) Passenger car saloon registrations increased by 43.8% to 6,873, compared to 4,780 in the same period of 2023. Of the total passenger car saloon registrations, 3,028 or 44.1% were new and 3,845 or 55.9% were used cars. Rental cars in particular decreased 5.6% to 506.
(c) The share of gasoline-powered saloon cars in the total of this vehicle category decreased in the January-February 2024 period to 50.3% (from 58.4% in the corresponding period of 2023), as did the share of diesel-powered cars (from 11.4% in 2023 to 10.3% in 2024). In contrast, the share of electric vehicles (from 2.6% in 2023 to 3.1% in 2024) and hybrids (from 27.6% to 36.3%) increased.
(d) Bus registrations increased to 59 in the January-February 2024 period, up from 15 in the same period in 2023.
(e) Freight vehicle registrations increased to 966 in the January-February 2024 period, up 58.4% from 610 in the same period in 2023. Specifically, light trucks increased 62.8% to 765, heavy trucks increased 18.6% to 102, road tractors (trailers) increased 57.1% to 33, and rental vehicles doubled to 66.
[F] Moped registrations < 50ke increased to 92 in the January-February 2024 period, compared to 21 during the same period in 2023.
[G] Motorcycle registrations > 50ke increased 21.3% to 484 in the January-February 2024 period, compared to 399 during the same period in 2023.

Methodological Information
Purpose and Coverage
Data on Motor Vehicle Registrations are collected on a monthly basis. They relate to new motor vehicle registrations as recorded by the Department of Road Transport.
Registrations are presented by category, make, type of power, new or used, engine capacity, country of manufacture and origin, and other vehicle characteristics, based on information maintained by the Motor Vehicle Registration Service in the Department of Road Transport.
Data collection
Data collection is carried out by the Statistical Service, which receives the necessary data from the Road Transport Department.
Definitions
"Motor vehicle" means any vehicle with an engine, which is its sole means of propulsion, intended for road use and used principally for the transport of persons or goods, i.e:
- Saloon-type passenger cars, which include private cars, taxis, rental cars, educational vehicles and vehicles for the disabled;
- Buses, private and public;
- Cargo vehicles, which include heavy and light cargo vehicles, rental vehicles and road tractors (trailers),
- Mopeds or motorcycles, which include mopeds, tricycles, motorcycles and rental motorcycles,
- Tractors, agricultural and non-agricultural,
- Other vehicles, which include road rollers, motorised cranes, heavy vehicles and other vehicles of a special type and use.
Monthly Publication
The Motor Vehicle Registrations report has been published monthly since 1982 and is available free of charge in electronic format on the Statistics Office's web portal.
