The Statistical Office announces the release of the report "Motor Vehicle Registrations", covering the period January-April 2024.
In April 2024, total motor vehicle registrations reached 4,762, an increase of 59.4% compared to 2,987 in April 2023. Passenger car saloon registrations increased by 60.5% to 3,662 from 2,282 in April 2023.
The main developments in vehicle registrations during January-April 2024, compared to the same period in 2023, are summarized as follows.589, compared to 13,180 in the same period of 2023.
(b) Passenger car saloon registrations increased by 31.3% to 13,851, compared to 10,546 in the same period of 2023. Of the total passenger car saloon registrations, 6,073 or 43.8% were new and 7,778 or 56.2% were used cars. Rental cars in particular declined 18.5% to 1,399.
(c) The share of gasoline-powered saloon cars in this category of vehicles decreased in the January-April 2024 period to 48.9% (from 60.1% in the same period in 2023), as did the share of diesel-powered cars (from 11.0% in 2023 to 10.0% in 2024). In contrast, the share of electric buses (from 2.3% in 2023 to 3.6% in 2024) and hybrids (from 26.6% to 37.4%) increased.
(d) Bus registrations increased to 78 in January-April 2024, up from 68 in the same period in 2023.
(e) Freight vehicle registrations increased to 1,963 in the January-April 2024 period, up 47.4% from 1,332 in the same period in 2023. Specifically, light trucks increased 48.5% to 1,550, heavy trucks increased 40.0% to 231, road tractors (trailers) increased 91.9% to 71, and rental vehicles increased 29.1% to 111.
[F] Motorcycle registrations < 50ke increased to 364 in the January-April 2024 period, compared to 35 during the same period in 2023.
[G] Motorcycle registrations > 50ke increased 6.6% to 1,099 in the January-April 2024 period, compared to 1,031 during the same period in 2023.

Methodological Information
Purpose and Coverage
Data on Motor Vehicle Registrations are collected on a monthly basis. They relate to new motor vehicle registrations as recorded by the Department of Road Transport.
Registrations are presented by category, make, type of power, new or used, engine capacity, country of manufacture and origin, and other vehicle characteristics, based on information maintained by the Motor Vehicle Registration Service in the Department of Road Transport.
Data collection
Data collection is carried out by the Statistical Service, which receives the necessary data from the Road Transport Department.
Definitions
"Motor vehicle" means any vehicle with an engine, which is its sole means of propulsion, intended for road use and used primarily for the transportation of persons or goods, namely:
- Saloon-type passenger cars, which include private cars, taxis, rental cars, training vehicles and vehicles for the disabled.
- Buses, private and public.
- Freight transport vehicles, which include heavy and light goods vehicles, hire vehicles and road tractors (trailers).
- Mopeds or motorcycles, which include mopeds, tricycles, motorcycles and rental motorcycles.
- Tractors, agricultural and non-agricultural.
- Other vehicles, which include road rollers, motorised cranes, heavy vehicles and other vehicles of a special type and use.
Monthly Publication
The Motor Vehicle Registrations report has been published monthly since 1982 and is available free of charge in electronic format on the Statistical Office's web portal.
