June 1 was established as International Children's Day in 1925 by the World Assembly for the Welfare of the Child
Every child in Europe and around the world should enjoy equal rights and live free from discrimination and bullying of any kind.
All Member States of the European Union (EU) promote the EU Strategy on the Rights of the Child and the European Children's Guarantee, which is an essential policy for the protection and support of all children and the exercise of their rights.
The State Ministry of Social Welfare, as the National Coordinator of the Strategy on the Rights of the Child and the European Guarantee for Children, prepared the First Biennial Report on the implementation of the National Action Plan, which was approved by the Council of Ministers on 6 March 2024.
The purpose of the National Action Plan is to ensure that all children have access to free early childhood care, education and care, or adequate housing and healthy nutrition.
To this end, the Christodoulides government is implementing actions aimed at providing a stronger social safety net and reducing the difficulties faced by children and their families.
Some of these actions include the extension of the beneficiaries of the Tuition and Feeding Subsidy Plan for Children up to four years old for all Child Benefit recipients, the preparation of a new Tuition and Feeding Subsidy Plan for Children up to four years and five months old, and the signing of the first public financing for the creation of at least 30 new structures or expansion of existing Child Care Centres.
All the actions planned and implemented by the Ministry of Social Welfare aim to reconcile work and family life and, by extension, to improve the well-being of the family and the child for an inclusive and non-discriminatory society.
