A message of support to the displaced residents of Agia Marina Skyloura was conveyed by the Head of Humanitarian Affairs for Missing and Trapped People Ms Anna Aristotelous, who attended the Divine Liturgy held at the Church of Agia Marina in the occupied village on Saturday.
In an atmosphere of emotion and awe, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the small Church of Agia Marina Skyloura, with displaced residents rushing to honour the patroness of their village. The Mass was attended by Mrs Aristotelous, who, addressing those present, said that it was with mixed feelings of joy, boundless emotion and pride that she attended the Mass, since the village has been inaccessible for 50 years, as it has been arbitrarily classified by the occupation regime as a so-called "military zone".
Mrs Aristotelous, through her visit to the occupied Agia Marina of Skyloura, observed the difficulties faced and the hardship suffered by the displaced residents of the village in order to go to Agia Marina, in order to step even for a short time on the holy soil of their village during the two times a year that they visit the Church to celebrate Divine Liturgy, which is the only contact with their village.
"I want to assure you that the President of the Republic is by your side and supports you in order to achieve the best for the people who for 50 years remain far away from the place where they were born. It is an honour to be here and I thank the Community Mayor Mr. Partellis Hajifesa and the Community Council for the invitation. The cooperation that began a year ago, based on a people-centered approach, support, and the struggle to keep the memory of the village unquenched for all Maronites, will continue with the same intensity and consistency," Ms. Aristotelous indicated.
