Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) Good health and well-being: accessible and safe health care for all

Access to quality health services is a human right and an essential element for sustainable development. SDG 3 aims to ensure healthy living conditions and promote well-being for all and at all ages.

International standards and compliance assessment play a key role in achieving the goals of SDG 3. They provide a globally accepted framework that facilitates the application of digital technologies, health research and development, manufacturing and maintenance of medical devices and health care systems, thereby ensuring that safe and reliable medical devices, health services and systems are accessible to a wide range of the world's population.

Standards also provide the basis for effective regulation and policy making that encourages collaboration to improve the quality of health care. As digital technology in healthcare evolves, IEC, ISO and ITU international standards are helping to ensure system security and patient privacy.

We stay united and work together to achieve the United Nations 2030 Agenda by developing standards that support the SDGs and the "Shared Vision for a Better World."

The Cyprus Organization for Standardization (CYS), as the National Standards Organization of Cyprus, fully endorses the above message. It actively participates in the activities of international and European standardisation in the health sector, through its national representatives and officers, promoting national positions, but also disseminating standards and the benefits of their implementation to all stakeholders through a variety of actions. In addition, the CYS maintains reflective committees at national level on issues relevant to the health sector (e.g. medical devices, health service management, health informatics, etc.).

The ultimate goal of these standards, as emphasized above, is access for all to safe and quality health services that require a) the use of adequate, appropriate and safe medical technology equipment and b) efficient and effective management of services, building trust, protecting both patients and health professionals with a view to continuous improvement.
