MPs Irini Charalambidou (leader), Kyriakos Hatzigiannis and Christos Senekis, members of the Cypriot delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).They will travel to Bucharest to participate in the work of the 31st Annual Session of the Assembly which will take place between 29 June and 3 July 2024.
The general theme of the Session is "The role of the OSCE in the security architecture: A Parliamentary Perspective".
Cypriot parliamentarians will take part in joint and separate sessions of the three General Committees of the Assembly, the Committee on Political and Security Affairs, the Committee on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment and the Committee on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs, where the draft resolutions of the Rapporteurs of the Committees on the general theme and the amendments submitted to them by members of the Assembly, including Cypriot amendments, will be discussed.
Additional Resolutions will also be discussed and put to the vote, including a resolution tabled by Ms Charalambidou on preventing the use of corruption as a foreign policy tool. In addition, amendments to EPs will be discussed, including amendments by Ms Charalambidou and the head of the Greek delegation, Mr Dimitris Markopoulos, as co-rapporteurs, to a resolution on the migration issue. The resolutions of the three Committees and the "Additional Resolutions", which will be adopted by the Plenary Assembly, will constitute the Final Declaration of the Assembly.
In addition, Ms. Charalambidou and Mr. Hatzigiannis will participate in a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Assembly, during which they will discuss issues related to the present Session, as well as the planning of the next activities and the functioning of the Assembly.
Mr. Hatzigiannis will also participate in a meeting of the Ad hoc Committee of the Assembly. In the margins of the Annual Session, Ms Charalambidou will hold bilateral meetings with the heads of various delegations to exchange views on the current crisis in the Middle East.
Mr Hatzigiannis will also have, in his capacity as Special Representative of the CoE, a meeting with the OSCE Ad Hoc Ad Hoc Committee on Migration, of which he is Vice-Chairman.
On the margins of the Annual Session, Ms Charalambidou will hold bilateral meetings with the heads of various delegations to exchange views on the current crisis in the Middle East.
Mr Hatzigiannis will also have, in his capacity as Special Representative of the CoE, an exchange of views on the current crisis in the Middle East. In his capacity as OSCE Special Representative for South-Eastern Europe, he will have separate meetings with the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on National Minorities and President of the Armenian minority, Mr. Pambuccian Varujan, the Chairman of the Romanian-Cypriot Friendship Group in the Romanian Parliament and President of the Greek minority, Mr. Dragoş Gabriel Zisopol, as well as with the Director of the Western Balkans and Bilateral Relations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Mr. Mihail Harbit.
