Meetings with the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Mr. Kitack Lim and the newly elected Secretary General of the Organization Mr. Arsenio Dominguez were held on Wednesday 13 September, in London, by the Deputy Minister of Shipping Ms. Marina Hadjimanoli. She was accompanied by Mr. Stelios Chimonas, Director General of the Ministry of State and Mr. Andreas Kakouris, High Commissioner of Cyprus to the United Kingdom and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Cyprus to the IMO.
During both meetings, Ms. Hadjimanoli underlined the Republic of Cyprus' appreciation of the work of the IMO and the support of the RoC for the leading role of the Organization in the regulation of international shipping. She stressed that Cyprus supports all initiatives that strengthen this role and is proud to be an active member of the Organisation and its Council.
The Deputy Minister underlined the excellent cooperation of all representatives of the Republic of Cyprus with the Organisation's Secretariat and especially with the Secretary General and congratulated Mr Lim for the work he has carried out over the last eight years for the Organisation and especially for international shipping.
Ms Hadjimanoli also congratulated Mr Dominguez on his election as Secretary General of the IMO and confirmed the commitment of the Republic of Cyprus to continue and strengthen this cooperation, aiming at the positive contribution of Cyprus to the efforts of the Organisation to achieve its objectives.
Finally, the Deputy Minister thanked Mr Lim and Mr Dominguez for accepting her invitation to attend the Maritime Cyprus 2023 Conference in October in Limassol. The Deputy Minister noted that it is a great honour for Cyprus to host them, and it is also a great honour that the IMO Secretary General is continuing the tradition as a keynote speaker, which was established since the first Congress in 1989.
