[PIO] Meeting on the issue of polypharmacy under the Minister of Health

A wide-ranging meeting on the issue of polypharmacy was held today at the Ministry of Health under Minister of Health Dr. Popi Kanari. The meeting, which was attended by officials of the Ministry of Health, representatives of the OASAK, OAI, PASYMN, the Observatory for the Elderly and other stakeholders, discussed the preparation of an information campaign on the issue of Polypharmacy. Polypharmacy is the use of multiple medications or more than is medically necessary.

The campaign will include informing the population about the potential risks of frequent and simultaneous use of multiple medications, especially by older people. In addition, the organisation of information workshops for health professionals was also discussed.

As mentioned by the experts, the phenomenon of polypharmacy is very often observed in the elderly, resulting in an increased risk of interaction and side effects.

The Ministry of Health will proceed with additional actions related to the health of the elderly in order to further support the elderly.
