[PIO] Meeting of the Speaker of the Parliament with the Minister of Justice and Public Order

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ms Anita Demetriou, had a meeting today, Friday, December 1, 2023, with the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Ms Anna Koukkidi-Prokopiou. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Chief of Police of Cyprus, Mr. Demetris Demetriou, the Chief Superintendent Mr. Nikos Longinou, the Deputy Director of Prisons Mr. Ioannis Kapnoulas, the Director General of the Ministry of Justice and Public Order, Mr. Louis Panagi.

During the meeting, the Minister of Justice and Public Order informed the Speaker of Parliament about a number of bills to be submitted to the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs, Justice and Public Order, as well as about bills that are pending before that committee and for which revised texts are about to be submitted. In this context, particular reference was made to the promotion of the bills concerning the dissemination of false news and the modernisation of the penitentiary system, as well as to the taking of initiatives by the Executive for the creation of detention facilities for children in conflict with the law.
