The Speaker of the Parliament, Mrs Anita Demetriou, held a meeting yesterday with the President and members of the Committee of Occupied Municipalities.
During the meeting, issues of concern to the refugee world were discussed with particular emphasis on issues of equal burden sharing, loss of use of occupied properties and issues of enlightenment abroad.
The Speaker, expressing the full support of all parliamentary parties to the refugee world that has been and continues to be severely tested more than forty-seven years after the 1974 Turkish invasion, said that the issue of compensation to the refugee world for the loss of use of occupied properties is of concern to the state in many ways and as a difficult and complex issue it must be addressed with care and a willingness to find the most appropriate solutions under the circumstances for the benefit of the affected refugees.
Finally, the President of the Parliament assured those present at the meeting that all MPs in their contacts abroad, either as members of inter-parliamentary organisations or as members of missions, have as their main objective the enlightenment on the Cyprus problem and the multiple consequences of the ongoing occupation on the refugee world.
