Common goal: better labour regulation
Minister of Labour and Social Insurance Mr.Yannis Panagiotou met with the leadership of the Labour Advisory Council and discussed labour issues, which will be discussed by the Labour Advisory Council at its next meeting.
The issue of the reform of the pension system, the revision of the strategy for the employment of workers from third countries, the revision of the minimum wage and the issues referring to the need to extend the institution of collective agreements were some of the issues that were discussed during the meeting and which will be dealt with comprehensively at the next meeting of the Labour Advisory Council.
The common goal, as Mr Panagiotou said, is the better regulation of labour both for the strengthening of the cohesion of society and for the development of the economy.
For his part, the General Secretary of the BCC Mr Andreas Matsas said that a substantial meeting took place, stressing: "It is important that there is a common approach, through the human-centred dimension of the issues, with the Minister of Labour."
Also, in the context of the meeting, the leadership of the BCC put before Mr. Panagiotou its recommendations regarding the extension of their collective agreements.
Finally, Mr. Matsas welcomed the announcement of the Minister of Labor for the payment of the statutory pension from the first month of retirement and added: "We expect a similar arrangement for other benefits, with particular emphasis on unemployment benefit and sickness benefit."
