In the margins of the 2nd Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), the members of the Cypriot delegation to the Assembly, Mr. George Loukaides, Ms. During the meeting, the Cypriot MPs congratulated Mr. Roussopoulos on his election as President of the CSE and expressed the readiness of the House of Representatives, through its delegation to the CSE, to support in every way the work of the Council of Europe and its Parliamentary Assembly.

This year, the Cypriot MPs said, marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Council of Europe as the guardian of democracy, the rule of law and human rights in Europe, but also the sad anniversary of the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion and continued occupation of part of the territory of Cyprus. The defence of the basic principles and values of the Organization and the commitment to international law, they further noted, constitute the strongest arsenal available to Cyprus and every other member state whose human rights are being violated.

During the meeting, views were exchanged on ways to enhance the visibility of the Council of Europe's work in the member states and to inform European citizens about the benefits of their representation in the various institutions of the Organization.
