The Head of Humanitarian Affairs of Missing and Trapped Persons Ms Anna Aristotelous met with the President and Members of the Community Council of Agia Marina Skyloura and congratulated them on their re-election/election.

During the meeting, Ms. Aristotelous praised the struggle of the interned and resettled and expressed the gratitude of the State for their struggle and sacrifices over the years, and congratulated the Maronites of Agia Marina Skyloura for their continuous actions, stressing that the President of the Republic supports their efforts and struggle for keeping the flame of return unquenched and for resettlement in their village, properties and fields.

He reiterated that he stands by their side and supports their every effort, and joins in the effort to implement the pilgrimages to the church of Agia Marina Skylura in their occupied village, which is under military rule. Partellis Hadjifesa expressed his satisfaction for the continued support of the Government and the fact that for the first time they are being given financial support for this very important purpose of the Divine Liturgy in the Church of their occupied village, which is the only contact with their village.

The Head clearly stated that they will continue to support their efforts, actions and activities, and asked them to continue to struggle to keep the memory of their village unquenched for all Maronites, while acknowledging the difficulties they face, since their village is one of the four occupied Maronite villages under military rule and no visits are allowed either. The only exception is the Divine Liturgy in the Church of Agia Marina, which takes place twice a year with many difficulties, since the necessary infrastructure is lacking and the Church is in a state of disrepair.

Mr. Hadjifessas said that next Saturday, July 27, 2024, a Divine Liturgy will be held at the occupied Agia Marina Skyloura, presided by the Archbishop of Maronites of Cyprus, to honor the patroness of their village, Agia Marina, which will be attended by the Head.

The community leader thanked Mrs. Aristotelous for her keen and continuous interest in the issues of their community and confirmed that they will seize every opportunity that presents itself, to step even for a while on the holy soil of their village.
