The Head informed the Ambassador about the cooperation with the Armenian community in Cyprus and assured him that the issues concerning Armenians, especially the well-being and preservation of their cultural and religious elements, are among the priorities of the State. In this context, it has recently been decided to increase the number of priests/clerics of the Armenian Metropolis of Cyprus from three to four by a decision of the Council of Ministers, since the number has remained the same since 1998. Today the population of Armenians in Cyprus is estimated at about 4,000.
The Ambassador thanked the Republic of Cyprus for its contribution to the well-being of the Armenians of Cyprus, while at the same time mentioning that as Armenia they face a serious problem in locating Armenians missing from the conflicts with Azerbaijan that took place in the early 1990s and very recently in the period 2020-2023.

Ms. Aristotelous said that the issue of missing persons is the most tragic aspect of the Turkish invasion, stressing: "We continue to make tireless efforts, on the one hand, to determine the fate of our missing persons and, on the other hand, to keep their memory unquenched, since for fifty years, more than 49% of missing persons cases are still pending to this day." He also informed the Ambassador about the problems arising from the negative attitude of the occupation regime in resolving this humanitarian issue.
Finally, they confirmed the intention to further strengthen their cooperation particularly in the field of information and enlightenment on the serious problems in locating the missing persons, which both countries are facing.
