The contribution of the free Famagusta Province is historical, timeless and intense

A meeting with the Board of Directors of PASYXE Famagusta was held today, in Protaras, by the Deputy Minister of Tourism Mr. Costas Koumis in the framework of his meetings with the Provincial Associations of PASYXE.

During the meeting, issues that concern the hotel industry of the free Famagusta Province were discussed. Specifically, issues concerning the extension of the tourist season were discussed, as well as the lack of human resources, the need for more tourism promotion of the region abroad, the increased operating costs of hotel units and the need to enhance connectivity with Larnaca and Paphos airports.

Further, reference has been made to the problem of noise pollution, as well as delinquent behaviour, mainly with four-wheeled motorcycles, which has plagued the free Famagusta District in recent years.

Finally, the issue of the need to create new infrastructure projects, which will enrich the tourist product, in order to make the Province more competitive and to strengthen the efforts made to extend the tourist season, was discussed.

The Deputy Minister of Tourism said in his statements that "this is a Province with a historical, timeless and strong contribution to the tourism of our country. We listened attentively to what was presented at the meeting by the leadership of PASYXE Famagusta and it goes without saying that we will support the efforts of the free Famagusta Province to remain highly competitive in the tourism sector.

It is known that many units in the tourist resorts of Protaras and Ayia Napa have had close cooperation with two markets that are currently facing problems, the Russian and Ukrainian markets, but it seems that to a very high degree they have filled the gap, and this makes us happy. We also took the opportunity to exchange views on long-standing issues facing the hotel industry, such as the problem of manpower shortages, the problem of noise pollution and the need to extend the tourist season. Of course, the latter cannot be achieved overnight. A holistic approach is required and it is on this very axis that we are working."

The President of PASYXE Famagusta Mr. Panagiotis Constantinou, for his part, welcomed the visit of the Deputy Minister of Tourism and said that the meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere and was very productive. They discussed and exchanged views on issues related to tourism and in particular the hotel industry in Famagusta District.
