Social investment can become a driver of economic growth.

The strengthening of cooperation between the Ministry of Social Welfare and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) in areas such as the activation of beneficiaries of benefits in the labour market, the development of structures and services to reconcile work and family life, as well as the provision of incentives through policies and actions for the further involvement of businesses in the development of social policy, was agreed during the meeting today between the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Ms. Marilena Evangelou and the President of the CCCI. Stavros Stavrou, the Secretary General of KEBE Mr. Mario Tsiakki and the Director of the Labour Relations and Social Policy Department of KEBE Mr. Emilio Michael.

During the meeting, Ms Evangelou outlined the policy of the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare in relation to the activation of beneficiaries of the Minimum Guaranteed Income (MGA) through the Social Intervention Mechanism, the programmes and policies of the Deputy Ministry that enhance the integration or retention of young people in the labour market through the provision of subsidised quality pre-school childcare services, as well as the combined policy of services and benefits aimed at active ageing.

It was agreed to organise a workshop to inform KEBE members on these issues, with the aim of involving them more actively in social policy issues.

It is a common belief that social investment, with the involvement of all stakeholders, can contribute to the well-being of citizens and thus to social and economic development.
