[PIO] Meeting of the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare with a delegation of the PIO

Strengthening the efforts of the Ministry of Social Welfare for the integration of EEE beneficiaries into the labour market

Meeting with a delegation of the Pancyprian Workers' Federation (PEO) under the General Secretary of the guild Ms. Sotiroula Charalambous had today the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Ms. Marilena Evangellou.

During the meeting, Ms Evangelou developed the actions of the Deputy Ministry in relation to the Modernization and Upgrading of the Minimum Guaranteed Income (MGA), focusing on the activation of the Social Intervention Mechanism, which aims at the integration of MGA beneficiaries either in the labour market or their activation in society through training programmes or through psychosocial support programmes.

Ms. Charalambous expressed the intention of the PEO to assist in the effort of the Deputy Ministry with a structured process, which would involve all relevant stakeholders. In particular, it was agreed to involve all social partners in the formulation of a framework for action in order to channel beneficiaries into quality jobs depending on their qualifications and their individual or family circumstances.

To this end, the Ministry of Social Welfare will also hold contacts with employers' organisations and will continue meetings with all relevant bodies. A meeting has already been held with the Confederation of Cyprus Employees (CEC) on this issue.

The Ministry of Social Welfare is already cooperating within the framework of the Social Intervention Mechanism for EEO beneficiaries with the Public Employment Service, the Productivity Centre and the Human Resources Development Authority of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance, as well as with the State Training Institutes of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth.

During the meeting with the PEO delegation, issues related to benefit policy and the reconciliation of work and family life were also discussed.
