It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to today's Press Conference at the Ministry of Defence, during which the operation of the digital service for issuing Certificates of Military Status will be presented.
First of all, I would like to thank you for your presence here today. I would also like to note, once again, the fact that for all of us at the Ministry of Defence, the mission of media practitioners is essential, as issues relating to defence, security and the service of our citizens presuppose and require their accurate, serious and reliable information.
The possibility provided by the digital service of issuing Certificates of Military Status is undoubtedly a significant upgrade of the services provided by the Ministry of Defence, with the aim of serving our citizens without any inconvenience.
The development and operation of this digital service is part of the State's effort for a broad and comprehensive digital transformation of the public administration, which aims to provide better services that will facilitate the life of the citizen.
It has been proven in practice that electronic public administration can improve the service to the citizen, applying the principle of "government to citizen". By using e-services, citizens are able to access information and submit the necessary data to complete procedures, without the need to be physically present at government offices. This saves substantial time and reduces costs for both the state and citizens. At the same time, digitisation can improve the efficiency and accuracy of procedures, reducing potential errors, omissions and delays.
The digital service of the Ministry of Defence, which we are launching today, enables all Cypriot citizens to receive digitally through the gov.cy website certificates, military status certificates or exit permits depending on the reason for the issue for which they are applying. The whole process, as shown in the projections, is very easy, in a friendly environment for the person concerned, from wherever they are, in Cyprus or abroad, as long as they are an identified user on the gov.cy website without the need to be physically present.
Ladies and gentlemen,
We live in the era of rapid technological development, which is characterized by new challenges, new needs and new data. The renewal and improvement of the existing processes of the state's services is an urgent need.
As the Ministry of Defence, we must be flexible and accept these changes as an opportunity for continuous improvement in order to successfully meet the commitments we have undertaken as public administration bodies.
In conclusion, I would like to thank the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, the General Staff of the National Guard and the relevant department of the Ministry of Defence, as well as the contractor Ernst and Young for their contribution to the successful completion of the project for the benefit of Cypriot citizens.
I inform you that new projects are expected in the near future that will further contribute to the digital upgrade of the Ministry of Defence.
Thank you.
