Member of the Delegation of the House of Representatives to the Conference on the Future of Europe Ms Marina Nikolaou participated today, 17/12/2021, online, in a meeting of the Conference Working Group on Stronger Economy, Social Justice and Jobs.
In her intervention during the discussion, Ms. Nicolaou noted, among other things, that the pandemic has led to further deregulation of the labor market, widened socioeconomic inequalities, and negatively affected the most vulnerable groups. She noted that social justice and solidarity are essential for a fair and inclusive recovery and for the promotion of a people-centred model of development.
Ms Nicolaou stressed that the establishment of a minimum wage, taking into account the specificities of each Member State, benefits and pensions should reflect a decent standard of living for all citizens. He also stressed that the introduction of legislation on teleworking, flexible working, support for businesses working with young people and families, as well as legislation supporting accessible and affordable housing, would help to promote minimum social standards, decent working conditions and an adequate level of social protection.
Finally, Ms Nicolaou underlined that the Working Party must safeguard the vision of a Europe of workers, social justice, solidarity and social equality, while protecting the important areas of health and education.
