[PIO] Informative lectures in public and private hospitals on blood transfusion issues

The Medical Services and Public Health Services of the Ministry of Health, in the framework of the strategic goal of the Blood Banks Service for 2024 for "Optimal management of blood derivatives", organized lectures for public and private hospitals on blood transfusion issues.

The presentations, which were aimed at medical and nursing staff involved in blood derivative transfusion issues in hospitals, included the following topics.

- Conditions for storage and transport of derivatives.

- Renewals of patient transfusions by sending new samples.

- Investigation of patients for the presence of antibodies.

- Investigation of patients for the presence of antibodies.

- Timely return of derivatives to the Blood Bank.

- Handling of inappropriate derivatives.

- Blood vigilance.

The aim of the briefing was to achieve the best possible cooperation between Blood Banks and the clinical area in order to improve the management of blood derivatives and to raise awareness of blood safety issues concerning Blood Banks and Public and Private Hospitals.

During the presentations, a discussion and exchange of views took place in order to improve the procedures related to blood transfusion.

After the presentations, the common objective of the Blood Banks and Public and Private Hospitals Service was set, which is the optimal management of blood derivatives and the provision of high quality transfusion services to patients.
