The Ministry of Social Welfare announces that following the adoption and publication of the relevant Law, it immediately proceeds with the implementation of the measure announced by the Government regarding the increase of the Child Benefit by 5% and the payment of 50% of the Child Benefit to students of large families, who are attending full-time study programmes for the acquisition of a degree or a postgraduate degree. The two provisions of the legislation are retroactive as of January 1, 2024.
Under the provisions of the Act, all recipients of the Child Allowance will begin to receive a 5% increase in the allowance as of this month and will also receive the retroactive payment of this increase as stated above as of January 1, 2024.
Multiple-parent families eligible for the Child Benefit in the current year with student children up to twenty-three (23) years of age, or up to twenty-four (24) years of age in the case of military service, will be able to apply for the student, Child Benefit, for the year 2024 as of August 30, 2024. The request can be made by completing the Change of Information Form, specifically the additional item under Dependent Children for students. The form will be posted, beginning August 30, 2024, on the website of the Office of Welfare Benefits Administration.
For the 2024-2025 academic year, an additional application is not required for students who will receive the benefit for the 2024 year and continue their studies, provided they meet the age requirement.
Large families applying for the Child Benefit for students for the 2024-2025 academic year for the first time will be able to apply online via CYLogin in October. A prerequisite is registration in CYLogin and identification of the applicant's and spouse's profile (where applicable).
Please note that in all cases of applying for a student's child allowance for a large family student, it is mandatory to submit a completed Authorization Form in original paper form to the Welfare Benefit Service Points (WPSPs).), after arranging an appointment through the website of the SSI or by telephone at 8000 2000.
Eligible large families will receive 50% of the Child Benefit for the student(s), based on the income category they are in, retroactive from 1 January 2024 where applicable.
