[PIO] Imports, Sales and Stocks of Petroleum Products: June 2024

Annual Change in Sales -4.1%

In June 2024, total sales of petroleum products reached 127,395 tonnes, a decrease of 4.1% compared to June 2023. A decline was recorded in ship oil supplies (-32.3%), as well as in sales of kerosene (-68.8%), heating oil (-28.7%), heavy fuel oil (-15.7%), motor oil (-8.9%) and gasoline (-1.8%). On the other hand, there was an increase in supplies of oil to aircraft (3.9%), as well as in sales of light fuel oil (12.0%) and bitumen (11.9%). As regards sales by petrol stations in particular, these fell by 5.6% to 55,950 tonnes.

Total sales of petroleum products in June 2024 compared to May 2024 were up 4.1%. Indicatively, aircraft oil supplies increased (12.9%), as did gasoline (5.4%) and diesel (5.1%) sales. Total petroleum product inventories at the end of June 2024 decreased by 20.9% compared to the end of the previous month.

In the January-June 2024 period, total petroleum product sales rose 1.0% compared to the same period last year.

Methodological Information

Purpose and Coverage

Import data collection, Sales and Stocks of Petroleum Products is carried out on a monthly basis.

It covers sales of petroleum products from petroleum service stations and sales to government departments, British Bases and the United Nations, ships and other customers, as well as stocks at the end of each month. Only oil companies are covered. In addition, it includes imports of petroleum products directly from the Cyprus Electricity Authority (CPA) and the manufacturing industry.

Data collection

Data is collected on a monthly basis by the Statistical Service, which receives the specially designed questionnaire electronically from each of the companies concerned.
