In December 2023, total sales of petroleum products reached 119,917 tonnes, an increase of 1.5% compared to December 2022. An increase was recorded in supplies of oil to aircraft (15.9%), as well as in sales of heavy and light fuel oil (18.4% and 13.4% respectively) and bitumen (7.4%). In contrast, a decrease was recorded in supplies of oil to ships (-10.6%), as well as in sales of heating oil (-5.1%), LPG (-2.7%), diesel (-2.6%) and gasoline (-1.6%). As for sales from petrol stations in particular, they fell by 0.7% to 58,967 tonnes.
Total sales of petroleum products in December 2023, compared to November 2023, increased by 0.6%. Indicatively, kerosene (104.2%) and heating oil (47.7%) sales increased, while in contrast, aircraft oil supplies (-21.7%), as well as motor oil (-8.0%) and gasoline (-0.1%) sales decreased. Total petroleum product inventories at the end of December 2023 increased by 2.2% compared to the end of the previous month.
Total petroleum product sales in the year 2023 showed a marginal increase of 0.4% compared to 2022. Supplies of oil to aircraft increased by 15.2%, while sales of heavy fuel oil (41.5%), bitumen (14.5%), gasoline (4.7%) and diesel (4.4%) also increased. In contrast, decreases were observed in ship oil supplies (-28.0%) and in sales of kerosene (-27.2%), heating oil (-12.7%), light fuel oil (-7.8%) and LPG (-6.2%). In 2023, sales by petroleum service stations amounted to 666,793 tonnes, an increase of 1.9% compared to 2022.

Methodological Information
Purpose and Coverage
To collect data on imports, sales and stocks of petroleum products is carried out on a monthly basis.
It covers sales of petroleum products from petroleum service stations and sales to government departments, British Bases and the United Nations, ships and other customers, as well as stocks at the end of each month. Only oil companies are covered. In addition, it includes imports of petroleum products directly from the Cyprus Electricity Authority (CPA) and the manufacturing industry.
Data Collection
Data is collected on a monthly basis by the Statistical Service, which receives the specially designed questionnaire electronically from each of the companies concerned.
