The strengthening of diplomatic relations between the two countries is also supportive in the field of tourism. Costas Koumis, who visited Jordan to further promote our country in the neighbouring country on the occasion of the addition of new air routes.

Specifically, new routes from the neighbouring country will be added from today, as Royal Jordanian airline will operate flights from Amman to Paphos Airport twice a week, thus strengthening its already strong flight programme to our country, as it already operates flights to Larnaca Airport four to six times a week.

During his visit to Jordan, the Deputy Minister of Tourism held a meeting with his Jordanian counterpart, the Jordanian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Mr. Makram Queisi, during which they discussed issues of further strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

Mr. Koumis also had a meeting with senior executives of the Royal Jordanian airline headed by the CEO Mr. Samer Majali, with senior executives of the Jordan Tourism Board, as well as a meeting with the Archbishop of Kyriakupolis (Jordan) Mr. Christoforos, during which ways of developing religious tourism between Cyprus and Jordan were discussed.

In the framework of the visit of the Cypriot delegation, an event was also held, jointly organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Royal Jordanian, during which our country was presented to professionals of the sector, as well as to Jordanian journalists.

Mr. Mr. Koumis gave interviews to the Jordanian media at the end of the event.

In his statements after the conclusion of the meetings in Amman, Mr. Koumis said the following.

"Jordan is a country geographically very close to our country, with which we have many links. In addition to the good relations between the two peoples, diplomatic relations between the two countries have admittedly improved in recent years, which is something we are also experiencing in meetings with our tourism partners.

It is indicative that, at the end of the presentation, both media representatives and tourism professionals discussed in the best terms the strengthening of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the important role that our country now plays in the region, referring to the Christodoulides Government's initiative for the Amalthea maritime humanitarian corridor, as well as the President's meetings at the international Dead Sea Conference earlier this week.

It is therefore important and evident that the strengthening of diplomatic relations between the two countries is also supportive in the field of tourism.

As the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, we welcome the addition of new routes by Royal Jordanian, and we are optimistic that the upward trend recorded by the Jordanian market in recent years will continue.

I believe that there is great potential for strengthening cooperation between the tourism partners of the two countries and I personally believe very much in the creation of joint tourism packages.

It is an issue that was discussed in the past, but did not proceed to implementation for various reasons, we thought it appropriate to bring it up again in the meeting with my Jordanian counterpart. In the coming days we will propose a new comprehensive cooperation plan to the Jordanian side, after a consultation with the tourism partners in our country."
