The Cyprus Ports Authority on the instructions of the Commissioner of Citizens Mr.Panagiotis Sentonas, following the decision of the President of the Republic of Cyprus to send humanitarian aid to Ukraine and in full coordination with the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Mr. Yannis Karousosos, a coordinating centre for the collection and management of all humanitarian aid has been operating since Friday 4/3/2022 and throughout the three-day period. It is recalled that more than 40 collection centres had been operating nationwide and all the material was transported with the help of the National Guard to a site indicated by the Cyprus Ports Authority, near the new port of Limassol.
On Tuesday 8/3/2022 the material was sent by ship from the port of Limassol to Greece for final disposal by road through the European Civil Protection Mechanism. The material includes dry food, basic necessities, medical supplies and civil protection material.
According to the Cyprus Ports Authority, this shipment is the largest humanitarian assistance ever provided by the Republic of Cyprus. In particular, 14 containers of 40 feet are being sent as first aid to the Ukrainian people.
The Cyprus Port Authority thanks all the voluntary organisations, its partners and ordinary citizens who have supported the above effort.
