[PIO] Health Minister Michalis Damianos met with the EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Ms Stella Kyriakidou

Issues that concern Cyprus at European level in the field of health were the focus of a meeting between the Minister of Health Mr. Michael Damianou and the Commissioner for Health and Food Safety of the European Union Ms. Stella Kyriakidou.

As stated by the Minister of Health Mr. Michael Damianos after the conclusion of the meeting, views were exchanged on various issues, noting that the Ministry is proceeding with the implementation plan of all issues related to the European Union.

Responding to journalists' questions on the issue of the destruction of medicines in the warehouses of the OCYPY in Limassol General Hospital due to a failure in the cooling system, Damianos noted that information has been requested from the OCYPY regarding both the causes of the destruction and the management of the situation, in order to avoid problems in the administration of medicines to patients.

Asked about the issue of the announced strike by public sector doctors between July 2-3, the minister said that continuous efforts are being made to avoid the strike. In case the strike measures are not suspended, he added, there is a plan so that patients who will need care can get it. In any case, he added, the aim is to prevent the strike measures and to avoid the slightest inconvenience for patients.
