It is with great pleasure that I welcome today's event, which is being held by OPAP Cyprus, in the context of International Women's Day, on the occasion of the official delivery of the new Mammography System, donated by OPAP Cyprus to the Mackenzie Medical Centre. This is an event in honour of women and in recognition of their enduring contribution through the multiple roles they are called upon to assume on a daily basis.
Women's Day is an opportunity to recognise and honour the important contribution of women to our society. It is a day that highlights their strength and their important role in every aspect of life. Today, therefore, we dedicate this day to all women who contribute to culture, the economy and society in general.
OPAP's valuable contribution supports with important actions and dedication the Ministry of Health in its ongoing efforts to improve the services provided to the population. The purchase and concession of the new digital mammograph highlights your commitment to the adoption of the latest technology for the breast programme.
The new digital mammograph promises not only excellent accuracy, but also detailed imaging with minimal radiation dose, thus offering a significant contribution to the prevention and diagnosis of breast cancer.
Dear friends,
The upgrade of the breast cancer screening programme and the introduction of screening programmes for other cancers, within the framework of European cancer guidelines, are a priority of the Ministry of Health.
Taking into account the European guidelines through the European Strategic Plan and the recommendations of the National Cancer Commission, the Ministry of Health has extended the age limit for mammograms to 45-74 years of age. All Mammography Centres have been upgraded in terms of infrastructure, equipment and staffing. Particularly in terms of equipment, they have been upgraded, including the provision, following a donation from OPAP, of the latest digital mammography technology. Our partnership with OPAP Cyprus is crucial to the success of this initiative.
Their generous sponsorship translates not only into the acquisition of the Selenia Dimensions 3D, but also into the procurement of four other similar systems in all provinces, reinforcing our efforts to promote women's health. It is worth noting that OPAP Cyprus Ltd financed the previous four mammography systems of the Ministry of Health.
Today we can confidently say that all the Centres will meet the required standards with the interventions carried out so that the accreditation process will gradually proceed. Especially for this purpose we are participating in a project funded by the European Commission where common quality and performance indicators will be set.
In conclusion, we express our sincere thanks to the President and the Board of Directors of OPAP for their generosity and our close and meaningful cooperation. Your sponsorship supports our efforts to improve the health of our citizens and modernize our services. We appreciate your contribution and wish to continue this constructive partnership for the benefit of the health and well-being of our community.
