[PIO] Greeting by the Commissioner of the Presidency Mr. Fotis Fotiou at the Christmas tree decorating ceremony at the Nicosia Town Hall area

[B-0]22191[B-1].

[B-2]We are always touched by the decoration of the Christmas tree for our missing persons here in Liberty Square. The decoration of the Christmas tree here in the heart of the divided capital of Cyprus symbolizes much. [B-3] [B-4]It symbolizes the responsibilities of Turkey, the responsibilities of the powerful of the earth, the ongoing drama of the relatives, many of whom have passed away with all the pain and anguish and without any answer to the questions about their loved ones, but also our unfulfilled duty to determine the fate of all our missing persons without exception.[B-5] [B-6]This drama cannot continue after 47 years with the occupying power, Turkey, refusing to cooperate with sincerity and goodwill for the final resolution of the problem. A problem that is purely humanitarian and must be kept away from the agendas that Turkey has long been serving.[B-7] [B-8] [B-8] The truth cannot be hidden. And as much as Turkey seeks to do so, it cannot taunt everyone to hide its enormous responsibilities. It does not take into account the pain and anguish of the relatives of the missing, those who over the years have been climbing their personal Calvary, asking to be informed of the obvious: What happened and where are their loved ones. And why such shame and callousness.[B-9] [B-10] The occupying power should at last respond positively to the appeals made to it and to the extent required by the humanitarian nature of the problem. It should allow unrestricted exhumations on our occupied land, give clear answers to the deliberate and forcible removal of the remains of the missing from their original burial sites and allow researchers access to the archives of the occupying army, as it is obliged to do by the international conventions to which it is a signatory.[B-11] [B-12]We will continue this sacred struggle, continue our efforts and do everything necessary and possible to determine the fate of our last missing person. [B-13] [B-14]I wish to convey to you the warm greetings, appreciation and support of the President of the Republic and his assurance that he will continue to work with all his strength to solve this humanitarian problem that has tormented hundreds of relatives for 47 years. [B-15] [B-16]I would like to thank the Mayor and the Nicosia City Council for their long-standing support for the implementation of this institution. [B-17] [B-18]I would like to express my special thanks to the President and members of the Pancyprian Organization of Relatives of Missing Persons and Missing Persons and all the relatives of our missing persons. [B-19] [B-20]Their pain is also our pain. We hope that the Birth of the God-Man will soon bring a message of hope for all the cases of our missing persons, as well as the beginning of the end of the drama of their relatives.[B-21] [B-22]Merry Christmas to all.
