Total Employment: 53,702
Government employment in February 2022 increased by 1,221 persons (2.3%) compared to the corresponding month of 2021 and reached 53,702 persons. Permanent staff saw a decrease of 645 people (-2.4%), from 26,775 to 26,130. In temporary staff there is an increase of 1,876 persons (10.8%), reaching 19,279 compared to 17,403 persons in February 2021.
Compared to February 2021, there is an increase in all categories of personnel, Public Service (0.1%), Educational Service (7.2%) and Security Forces (1.5%).

There is a decrease in permanent staff in all three categories, with the largest decrease occurring in the Civil Service (-2.9%). In contrast, temporary staff show an increase in all three categories, with Education Service staff showing the largest increase (23.8%). There is a decrease (-0.1%) in Hourly Staff compared to February 2021.
Compared to January 2022, there is an increase in Education Service staff (2.3%), a decrease in Security Forces staff (-0.4%) while Public Service staff remains stable. There is a decrease in permanent staff in all three categories, with the largest decrease in Security Forces staff (-0.4%). Among temporary staff, there is an increase in Public Service staff (0.2%) and Education Service staff (6.0%) and a decrease in Security Forces staff (-0.4%). There is an increase in Hourly Staff (0.3%) compared to January 2022.

METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Data coverage
Government employment includes: the Civil Service, the Education Service, the Security Forces, and the Hourly Government Workers. The Civil Service includes permanent and temporary employees of Ministries, Departments and Agencies. The Education Service includes permanent and temporary teaching staff serving in schools as well as staff of the Productivity Centre and the Higher Hotel Institute. The Security Forces include: the Police, the Fire Service and the National Guard. Hourly Staff includes regular, temporary and seasonal employees.
Data excludes Members of the House of Representatives (Members of Parliament and Representatives of Religious Groups).
Source of Data
The source of data on Government employment is the General Accounting Office of the Republic. The data refer to persons who were paid in a given month regardless of the period and duration of employment
