Total Employment: 53,054
Government employment in December 2021 increased by 359 persons (0.7%) compared to the corresponding month of 2020 and reached 53,054 persons. Permanent staff saw a decrease of 655 people (-2.4%), from 26,881 to 26,226. In temporary staff there is an increase of 1,088 persons (6.2%) reaching 18,644 compared to 17,556 persons in December 2020.
Compared to December 2020, there is an increase in the staff of the Education Service (2.0%) and the staff of the Security Forces (1.2%), while the staff of the Public Service remained stable.
Compared to December 2020, there is an increase in the staff of the Education Service (2.0%) and the staff of the Security Forces (1.2%), while the staff of the Public Service remained stable. There is a decrease in permanent staff in all three categories, with the largest decrease occurring in Public Service staff (-3.1%). In contrast, temporary staff saw an increase in all three categories with Education Service staff showing the largest increase (8.5%). In Hourly Staff there is a decrease (-0.9%) compared to December 2020.
Compared to November 2021, there is an increase in Education Service staff (1.2%) while there is a decrease in Public Service staff (-0.2%). Security Forces personnel remained stable. As regards permanent staff, there is the same decrease in the Public Service and Security Forces categories (-0.2%) while the Education Service staff remained stable. As regards temporary staff, there is an increase in Education Service staff (3.2%) and Security Forces staff (0.3%) and a decrease in Public Service staff (-0.2%). There is a decrease in Hourly Staff (-1.4%) compared to November 2021.

METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Data coverage
Government employment includes the Civil Service, the Education Service, the Security Forces and the Government Employees. The Civil Service includes permanent and temporary employees of Ministries, Departments and Agencies. The Education Service includes permanent and temporary teaching staff serving in schools as well as staff of the Productivity Centre and the Higher Hotel Institute. The Security Forces include the Police, the Fire Service and the National Guard. Hourly Staff includes regular, temporary and seasonal employees.
Data excludes Members of the House of Representatives (Members of Parliament and Representatives of Religious Groups).
Source of data
The source of the Government employment data is the General Accounting Office and refers to persons who were paid in a given month regardless of the period and length of time they were employed.
