The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces that today at 14:00 a fire broke out in an area of the Kapedon Community, near the Mahera National Forest Park, and within the National Forest Park of Pedagogical Academy, in Nicosia.
The intervention of the forest firefighting forces was immediate, resulting in the fires being brought under control at 14:20 and 14:30 respectively,burning a small area of dry grass and pine needles in the first case and two pine trees and pine needles in the second case.
16 Forestry Department personnel with three fire engines participated in the operation to extinguish the fire in the Capes Community, while five Forestry Department personnel with one fire engine participated in the operation to extinguish the fire in the Pedagogical Academy National Forest Park.
The exact causes of the fires are being investigated.
