On Monday, 03/06/2024, two fires broke out, almost simultaneously, at the borders of the communities of Gourriou and Xyliatos, making the work of the firefighting forces very difficult, due to the splitting of the forces by moving them from one fire to the other. Thanks to the increased readiness and rapid intervention of the forest firefighting forces, the rapid extinguishing of the fires and the prevention of their extension was achieved.
On the occasion of the heatwave period we are experiencing on our island, a warm appeal is made to the public to be particularly careful during their excursions and to completely avoid actions and activities that may cause a fire, such as the use of tools or agricultural machinery that produce heat, sparks or flame, such as emery, welding and welding.
If anyone notices smoke or fire, they should immediately call 1407 (Forestry Department) or 112 (Fire Department).
Protecting forests is everyone's responsibility!
