[PIO] Forest fire within the Paphos State Forest under full control

The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces that today, Friday 05 July 2024, at 12:10 a forest fire broke out within the Paphos State Forest, at Sarakos, near the occupied community of Abeliko. The fire was brought under full control at 12:30, after burning a small area of low wild vegetation and young pine trees.

To extinguish the fire, forces of the Forestry Department with 14 people and five fire engines operated.

The causes of the fire are being investigated, although initial assessments conclude that the fire was caused by a lit cigarette butt.
