The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces that today, Friday 14 June 2024, at 17:11, a fire occurred at the location "Kato Pervolia", within the boundaries of the community of Mathiatis, Nicosia District.
Thanks to the immediate intervention of the forest firefighting forces, the fire was brought under full control at 17:30, before it spread, burning a small area covered with dry grass and low wild vegetation.
7 persons of the Forestry Department with 2 fire engines operated to extinguish the fire. The firefighting operation was assisted by the Forestry Department's firefighting aircraft, which was on patrol, dropping water.
The causes of the fire are being investigated.
