The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces that today, Thursday 8 August 2024, at 04:40 a.m., a fire broke out in the area of Akonisou, near the community of Apsiou.
The fire was fully controlled at 07:00 a.m, burning an area of 5 decares with pine trees and low wild vegetation.
25 persons of the Forestry Department with six fire engines and ten persons of the Fire Service with four fire engines participated in the extinguishing of the fire.
At first sight the fire seems to have been set maliciously. The exact causes are being investigated.
