The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces that today, Thursday, 25 July 2024, at 18:20, a fire broke out in an area of the Municipality of Flassou, Nicosia District.
Thanks to the immediate intervention of the forest firefighting forces, the fire was brought under full control before it spread at 19:00, burning an area of three decares, covered with dry grasses, wild vegetation and individual olive trees.
36 persons of the Forestry Department with seven fire engines operated to extinguish the fire. The Fire Service participated in the extinguishing with four firefighters and two fire engines. Assistance was also provided by an agricultural tractor and volunteers from local residents.
The causes of the fire are being investigated.
