Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos will travel to the United States of America (USA) tomorrow, Sunday 09 June 2024, for a working visit.
As part of his visit, the Foreign Minister will visit Washington, D.C., New York and Chicago.
During his stay in Washington, the Foreign Minister will meet on Monday, 17 June 2024, with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The meeting will focus on bilateral relations and their further deepening, the Cyprus issue, as well as developments in the Middle East.
The Foreign Minister's contacts in the US capital will begin on 10 June 2024 with his participation in a closed roundtable discussion at the Council on Foreign Relations think tank. Subsequently, he will deliver a speech at the "AJC Global Forum" conference in Washington DC.
Subsequently, Mr. Kombos will participate in the Conference of the Global Coordinating Committee of the Cyprus Struggle (GCCC) taking place between 11 and 13 June 2024, where he will address the proceedings of the Conference as a keynote speaker. On the sidelines of the WCCA, the Foreign Minister will inaugurate a photo exhibition on the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion and occupation with photographs from the archives of the Press and Information Office.
Kobos will also hold meetings with leading members of the Senate and Congress, as well as other officials.
On Friday, June 14, 2024, the Secretary of State will be in New York City, where he will be the keynote speaker at an event at United Nations Headquarters to commemorate 60 years of UNFICYP's presence in Cyprus. The event will also include the presentation of the photo exhibition "60 Years of UNFICYP" by the Press and Information Office.
Mr. Kobos will have a meeting with the UN Assistant Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix and will attend a working lunch with Permanent Representatives of UN Security Council Members.
In the afternoon of the same day, the Foreign Minister will attend and address an event at the UN Headquarters on Cyprus' candidature to the Human Rights Council for the period 2025-2027.
Afterwards, Mr. Kombos will travel to Chicago where on Saturday, June 15, he will be the keynote speaker at an event organized by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs think tank.
The Foreign Minister's visit to the US will conclude on Monday, 17 June, with a meeting with his counterpart Mr. Blinken at the US State Department, as well as a meeting with US Deputy National Security Advisor Jon Finer.
